An exhibition of monotypes by Jill Boschulte
The Art Gallery of Sudbury is pleased to present Going Solo an exhibition of work by Sundridge, Ontario printmaker Jill Boschulte. Comprising 19 large-format monotypes, this exhibition uses the theme of flight and an aerial point of view as inspiration.

"When the Wright Brothers lifted off in 1903, it was the realization of
an age-old dream. But, becoming a pilot was never my age-old dream. I’d spent
20 years as an enthusiastic passenger in a two-seater until 1997 when I lost
my pilot-husband. I then decided, that if I wanted to continue to view the
world from above, I’d have to learn to fly." says Boschulte. This compressed,
intense experience of mastering flight had an enormous and lasting effect on
her work. The images in this exhibition, created three years after earning her
wings, use aviation maneuvers and terminology as metaphors that are connected
to personal moments, experiences and memories. In exploring this unique
creative theme, Boschulte became acutely aware of how closely the vocabulary
and mechanics of flying seemed to parallel other events in her life the work
endeavours to link together those layers.

To complement her exhibition Boschulte will conduct a monoprinting
workshop at the Gallery from 3 to 6 September 2002. Participants will learn
about all aspects of this printing process including ink mixing and rolling,
how to create effects using additive and subtractive techniques and how to
control and manipulate the printed image. Cost for this four-day session is
$125 plus a $35 materials fee.
Jill Boschulte has studied at Canadore College (North Bay), Flager
College (St. Augustine, Florida) and the University of Toronto. Her work has
been recently exhibited at the White Water Gallery (North Bay) ad W.K.P.
Kennedy Gallery (North Bay). Her experience as an instructor of visual
includes teaching engagements at Canadore College and the South River Festival
of the Art. Boschulte’s work is represented in a number of private and public
collections.
