The Art Gallery of Sudbury is pleased to announce an upcoming exhibition in contemporary art by Brent Roe. Entitled Who means What, this exhibition will examine the work of Toronto artist Brent Roe over a period of ten years. The artist will be in attendance at the opening reception on Thursday February 20th.
Many of Roe’s paintings combine gestural cursive lines, encapsulated
words and sentence fragments. His paintings converse to the viewer on many
levels, some conjure humour ,while others are more philosophical and
confrontational.
This exhibition includes various components of the artistic process,
preliminary sketches that lead to the complete works and an audio tour where
the artist explains the Interactive ping-pong table.
Brent Roe was born in Oshawa , Ontario in 1956. He studied visual
art at York University in Toronto, receiving both his B.F.A (1980) and MFA
(1983). His work is represented in numerous private collections as well as in
the Canada Council Art Bank, Ottawa and the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa.
Brent Roe lives and works in Toronto and is represented by the Wynick /Tuck
