simple bliss
The paintings and prints of Mary Pratt
May 25, 2006 - September 03, 2006

The Paintings and Prints of Mary Pratt encompasses a ten year period in the artist’s life, from 1993 to 2003. This exhibition focuses on a number of still life paintings, as well as the collaboration between Pratt and Japanese master print maker, Masato Arikushi. This series, entitled Transformations, includes the actual woodblocks used to create the final prints. Pratt’s work speaks to the viewer on many levels; simple bliss is instantly enjoyable because of its realism, sumptuous colors and technical perfection. However, for the viewer seeking a more cerebral experience, Pratt’s work brings symbolism and the suggestion of our most intimate relationships to the table. Curated by Patricia Deadman with guest writer Robin Laurence, visit our gallery shop for the simple bliss catalogue. Organized and circulated by the MacKenzie Art Gallery with the support of the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the City of Regina Arts Commission and the Canada Council for the Arts.
